I used to have this problem too, before I went back to my normal dark brown.

It takes a while to get used to it. Next time you colour your hair, make sure you give the roots extra special attention. Put the colour thoroughly there, and leave it for about 5-10 minutes. Then slick through the rest of your hair evenly, and leave for the remainder of the time. Wash out, and voila, the roots should be gone for another 4 weeks or so. Yes, dark roots show faster on lighter hair, so I wouldn't worry about it. There's not much you can do apart from try to control it. Nobody even notices really (: Hope this helps.
