My hair (medium length) wont hold curl?????
They say the heathier your hair is the harder it is to hold curl. So maybe your hair is "too healthy." Mine is extremely hard to hold curl, (I have really long thick hair). The only thing I can suggest you try is. Either velcro curlers (put them in while your hair is still semi damp and take them out carefully when you hair is dry) or use a very expensive hair spray while hot rolling your hair. Use two set of curlers so you can curl small strands of hair at a time. Spray the strand of hair before you roll it on the curler. (Use a lot of hair spary). Those are some of the ways I curl my hair and it semi works, and my hair is a lot longer then yours and maybe thicker.
What the girl said above works well too, "scrunch" it before you curl. Aussie makes a great product "sprunch spray" really good for it and will definitely hold your curl, however it will give you a stiff feel.

hairspray it during the actual curling process. and to not look like a poodle during a perm, ask for a spiral perm. they use bigger rolls.

velcro rollers.....with damp or wet hair..use velcro rollers..clip in place..let hair dry naturally....you'll be amazed

I have the same problem. My hair is fine. I asked my hairdresser about it and she said there's is nothing you can do about it. I wouldn't believe her, so I grew my hair longer and it holds curl much better now. Also make sure you keep the dead ends trimmed. That helps alot. I have started using this silk infusion from the stylist and that seems to help also. It keeps it from getting frizzy. You can only get it a salon of sorts.

bends...u mean waves? i use a 1.5 in barrel curling iron to get those big, loose waves. for curls, use one of those smaller .5 ones and take less hair around the barrel each time. instead of 2 in, only get 1 in and wrap it around as tightly as u can, spread it out so each bit gets as much heat as possible.
if u use the highest temp and hold it there for between 10 and 15 secs, spraying each one heavily w/hairspray as u get it right, it SHOULD hold. try getting a diff hairspray, mayb it will work better.
don't forget to get a good moisturizing, frizz-control, or heat-damage shampoo. anything by pantene is the best.

Try to spraying your hair lightly with a gel. then try curlers.

Spray hairspray on your hair before using the hot curling iron. Curl hair and then spray the curls before combing. Let spray dry and then style as usual. There is a product called wash and curl shampoo that may help to keep the curl in place.

My hair is very reluctant to hold curl. It's very fine in texture. The only thing that I've found that works when I want to curl it is to use a heat activated styler. I put a little in, and instead of using a brush with the hair dryer, I 'scrunch' my hair with my free hand so that it's not completely straight. Then once my hair is really dry (even if it means doing something else around the house for a while), I turn the curling iron up to high, and I spray each section right before I use the curling iron on it. As the iron is on it, you'll see the steam coming off of the spray evaporating. Once you're sure it's evaporated off and dry, then move on to curling the next section. After every section is done, I'll hang around doing something else for a while to make sure that my hair is completely dry again and the curl sets. Then I'll style it, add some hairspray (not a lot because you don't want to get your hair too damp) and you should be good to go.
I like Redken's version of a heat activated styler, but I know most of the drugstore brands are pretty good. I'd start with L'Oreal, they have a excellent salon division and their technology tends to trickle down into their mass-market brand.
Good luck with the curls!
